[james/isaac] theft and betrayal

Oliver’s words cut through the blood pounding in his head and slowly as he stared at the face in front of him the words slowly had meaning. As it happened, his expression gradually changed from anger to confusion to realization then finally to guilt. How was he supposed to know it wasn’t real? He let go of Tootles, slowly backing away, backing away from both Tootles and Oliver with that guilty look on his face. It wasn’t his fault that Tootles had been going along with it. He didn’t want to see Oliver kissing Tootles, who already stole his name from him. How was he supposed to know that the curse wouldn’t make his worst fear of Oliver falling for someone other than him come true?

“I-I’m sorry.” He wasn’t. But he wanted to make Oliver believe that, with the look he was giving him. Damn it. He had let his emotions get ahead of him. He’d attacked his friend (still, it wasn’t his fault, Tootles shouldn’t have played along), his brother, his fellow Lost Boy. And he still didn’t feel sorry. It was really scary actually, how not sorry he was, knowing that he should feel sorry for beating up Tootles, regardless of what Tootles did. But he didn’t. He didn’t feel sorry at all.

“I thought you were… together and… uh, right.” He continued to back up, stumbling a bit on the broom he’d dropped earlier, falling right down to his butt, unable to compensate for the imbalance caused by the broom.

He stared at Oliver’s hand for a moment before he took it, breathing heavily still, worried that he screwed everything up even further with his actions now. He would probably feel sorry later, he told himself, though he didn’t right now. After all, Tootles was like a brother to him, like a little brother he pushed around sometimes but ultimately would defend. A little brother who nearly kissed his best friend and… No. He couldn’t let himself get angry again. Oliver was obviously angry with him already for doing what he did to Tootles.

“Can’t make any promises,” Isaac muttered, leaning over to pick up the broom he tripped over. Maybe he should just leave. Though, it wasn’t possible for Tootles to say anything that would make him any angrier than he already was, but there was a chance that while angry at him Oliver could say something that would send him off flying again. Never at Oliver, but probably at Tootles again. The poor punching bag.

Well, if Tootles had any idea he was Tootles, Isaac had a feeling he probably wouldn’t have just let him beat him up like that. And when the curse was broken Slightly was going to have some explaining to do.

Shit. He wasn’t looking forward to that.
