Chase the wind & touch the sky.
Merida watched as her mother threw her bow in the fire, the shock registering immediately on her face as she looked at her. She couldn't believe that she could do that to her, knowing how much that bow meant to her. Anger and sadness coursed through her veins as she turned and fled from the room. Not even listening as her mother attempted to call her back to her, too upset to care as she tore out of the castle. Racing down the stairs, surpassing her brothers as they played around with whatever it was in their hands most likely treats they had stolen from the kitchen. She didn't care as she pushed past staff and others knowing that she had to leave this place. She could never be what her mother may have wanted despite what she may think. She wasn't her mother and could never agree to any sort of arranged marriage. Sure her mother may have been happy in that life, but that wasn't her, that wasn't the life she envisioned for herself. She wanted to prove she could rule the clans without a man because she knew in her heart that she could. Even if the other clans and her mother would like to think otherwise.
A woman doesn't need a man to help lead a kingdom, but it does perhaps help. No, she wasn't going to go down that line of thinking as she rushed out of the castle and into the courtyard. She knew there was one that still loved her and would always seem to understand her no matter what. Making her way to the stables, she slowed to a medium pace as she looked for her faithful steed, Angus. That horse had been her everything and still was to this day as she located his stall and turned to look at the handsome shire stallion. He almost instantly lifted his head to look at her as she stepped into the stall and grabbed his halter leading him out of the stables. She didn't need anything with this horse as she snuck them out of the stables and slowly moved to mount him, grabbing her bow and quiver and a cloak that she hide in the stables. That done, she slowly pulled herself up onto Angus's back as he lowered himself a moment. Tying the cloak around herself, she turned the stallion towards the gates of her Kingdom intent on leaving for a long time. She didn't care that this was unladylike or that it wasn't how a princess should act, but she didn't care. She wasn't going to let her mother or anyone else control her fate.
Luckily, the guards didn't give her much fuss as she urged Angus to a full gallop allowing the tears to slide down her face. Not even caring where he went so long as they put distance between her and the castle. It was times like these, she hated being a princess knowing she really didn't have that much freedom. She just continued to cry as the tears blinded her vision putting her trust in Angus to guide them through the woods. It was after all, a dense forest, but it was a forest they had both been in numerous times. as she urged him onward. He seemed to appreciate the urgency of this ride as he took her deeper and deeper into the forests as tears slid down her face. Her only thoughts on how much she hated her mother wishing she could do something about it. Or maybe there was as she slowly lifted her head. She had after all heard many stories about someone known as the Dark One who may be just what she needed. She didn't exactly believe these stories, but maybe it was because she'd never had use of it.
At least not until this moment when her mother decided that she couldn't deal with Merida's rebellious nature anymore. She wasn't even aware that Angus had managed to get them into an area of the forest she wasn't even aware of. Suddenly though she found herself head first in the dirt as Angus skidded to an abrupt stop. Groaning she gave Angus a dirty look as she noticed the fact that she was in the middle of a stone circle. One that she had never seen before as she looked around cautiously wondering just where they were. She looked to Angus who was becoming rather anxious about it all as she looked to him grumbling about the fact he had dropped her. Dusting herself she looked around wondering just what kind of place this was but figured she could think about that another time. Right now she was trying to remember how it was that she could summon the Dark One to her knowing it had been awhile since the last person mentioned him. Assuming he was actually a thing and not a simple story around the bar.
"Rumplestiltskin. Rumplestiltskin. Rumplestiltskin," replied Merida, her accent punctuating her every word as she finally started speaking. Eventually stopping as she waited to see what would happen, the wind blowing through her fiery red hair as she looked to Angus who had slowly made his way over to her. Stroking his head gently as she waited to see what would happen.
