General Personality:
Kaida has a very focused personality. If he has a goal in mind, he will go to great lengths to achieve it. Unfortunately, this focused personality of his can often times leave him oblivious to anything he's not currently working towards. Often times along the way to reaching his goal, he'll step on people without even realizing it. He's quick to accidentally miss the emotions of others towards him, and isn't exactly aware when something he's doing is hurting someone else. When he's pushed into awareness, however, he's the type to beat himself up about it. He gets over emotional about things, and will always try to make up for his wrong doings.
Part of his over-emotional personality is that when things upset him, they often times tare him apart on the inside. He's not good at letting things go and pushing them aside. When something's on his mind, he can't stop thinking about it. If he's done something wrong, he'll keep replaying and replaying the situation in his head. He'll feel even worse about it almost every time. On some levels, his mind is obsessive about certain things.
His over-emotional qualities are part of why Kaida has taught himself to build up walls. He doesn't want anyone getting in, because he's afraid to scare them away. He believes he pushed his only true friend, Zanith, away back in the ocean by being his full, uncensored, worrisome self around him. He wants to keep that from happening ever again, so he keeps things inside. It does a lot of damage to his well-being, unfortunately, causing him to break down when he's by himself.

When Kaida loves something, he loves it with one hundred and twenty percent of his heart. He loves things far too deeply, so much so that he has issues loosening his grip on anyone he grows attached to. Often times, he won't even realize he loves someone and will grab hold without even knowing he's doing it. It is part of why he's so over protective. Whether it's a family kind of love or a completely different romantic type of love, his whole heart is always in it. Unfortunately, when it comes to the romantic type, he's quick to anger and sadness whenever it seems like anyone else is getting close to the object of his affection.
History:
Fairy Tale History:
Having no false memories and no real memories to go off of, Kaida was completely confused when he'd gotten to Storybrooke. He'd just woken up on the side of the road with an empty mind. Oddly enough, he still somehow knew the basics of how this new world worked. For example, he understood and new what a microwave was, but he was clueless as to where that information came from. The general ideas of the world he's been put into entered his mind as a result of the curse, he just didn't have any new life made for him.
After managing to end up in a doctor's office, he was diagnosed with amnesia. A nice family had volunteered for taking him in until he was capable of getting on his feet after no one seemed to claim having any memory of his existence. Kaida got a job at the animal shelter, and he moved out as soon as he had enough money to get his own little apartment. He didn't want to be a burden on the family any longer. For the past twenty-eight years, Kaida has been going to work and living his life with no recognition of the fact that time seemed to be passing.
Just like everyone else, Kaida has been clueless to the fact that he'd been in a curse. When strange things started happening and magic had begun to pop up all around him, he began to question just about everything. Kaida wants to regain his memories in hopes of finding answers to the questions he's had since he'd first woken up on the side of the road. He has yet to take off the pendant he wears that keeps him from turning into his true self.

Fairy Tale History:
The big body of water covering most of the world is what Kaida had always referred to as home. For a merman, he had a pretty normal upbringing. His parents didn't really acknowledge his existence, being too obsessed with their own jobs. Even with the neglect, however, Kaida never went without anything he needed. They left him food and other necessary things for survival every time they went on one of their trips for weeks on end. It was lucky that his family was higher up in means of currency, because he'd always been left with plenty of that too.
As a young tadpole, Kaida was a pretty quiet one. He didn't really have a lot of friends, though he enjoyed being around the few that he did have. Kaida never really understood what it was like for someone to truly want his company until he met another merman by the name of Zanith. Zanith was an odd one in his eyes, very opinionated and compassionate, but Kaida was constantly finding himself hanging onto his every word. He followed him around like a puppy dog following it's master on land. He found himself spending a lot of his time with him, putting an end to the lonely life he had previous been living for the time being. Somewhere along the way, Kaida fell in love with Zanith. Unfortunately, he was completely oblivious to the fact that he had and the fact that Zan was trying so hard to always impress him.
Eventually, Zanith, for reasons completely unknown to Kaida, went off and started training to be a guard to the royal family. Zanith just seemed to get busier and busier with time, and Kaida eventually found himself slipping back into the loneliness he had felt before. Eventually, Zanith stopped coming around all together. That was when Kaida started to notice he might have loved him. It was hard to be oblivious while having a broken heart.
Being alone in life once again, Kaida began to change a little. He began to build up walls and make a new personality for himself. He didn't want to be stuck feeling the pain he had been feeling again, but he also didn't want to live the rest of his life alone and under a rock. So, he became a bit more social and found a new home away from his family, being of age anyways. He gained a job as an assistant teacher, mainly there to tutor young merfolk about the way of the ocean and inform them of the dangers of land. He enjoyed working with children, and did his best to be as talkative as he could manage in order to make friends with all of his co-workers. He avoided any kind of social situation that might have involved anything romantic like, and just continued to live his new social life with all of his defenses up. In his mind, Zanith had abandoned him, and he wasn't going to let anyone else ever have enough of an effect on him to care so much if they left. Being such an emotional person, that wasn't exactly an easy task but he managed.
Something unexpected happened one day while he was at work. His father came in to tell him that his mother had gained a fatal illness, and it was unclear how much time she would have. Kaida spent the next few weeks worrying about her. Despite their lack of relationship, he loved his mother greatly. The medic the family had been consulting eventually told Kaida and his father that there was a cure, but it was deep within a place on land called the Enchanted Forest. It was a rare plant with only one location. Kaida, not knowing what else to do, agreed that he would go and find it. His mother then gave him a magical pendant that had been in their family for generations. When the pendant was worn around the neck of a merman or mermaid, it would turn them into a human. (Little did he know that there were actually two pendants, and one would be given to Zanith later on.)
Everything was confusing outside of the water. People were very different and customs were baffling. He was, without a doubt, a fish out of water. Kaida was a very scared one at that, given all the stories about how terrible landfolk were that he'd been told his entire life. Unknown to him, something greater had been taking place during the time of his search. A curse was being spread through out the Enchanted Forest, tossing all of the beings into an unknown land called Storybrooke. Everyone, including himself, had lost their memories. The only difference for Kaida was that he wasn't given a new, fake life like the rest of the residents of the town. Since he wasn't supposed to be there, a place wasn't made for him. Kaida woke up on the side of the road, remembering nothing but his name for reasons completely unknown.
