[googlefont="Rancho"] My magic comes at a cost, as you know, and I've racked up so much debt I can never be clear of it unless I find a way to change the rules. Mr. Gold was the most feared man in town, even before the emergence of magic, which was mostly underwraps except for his purposes and others who remembered. Regina, specifically, but she seemed smart enough to keep magic a secret. Of course, there were always those who accidentally released magic and that was a bit bothersome, but everything was going according to plan. Except for one very small, minute really, detail.
Belle was alive.
That meant he couldn't let this entire town rot and just run off looking for his son. Just because he needed someone to guide him out of this town for a short time, didn't mean he grew to care for this town. Except for the fact that Belle being alive meant that… he couldn't - she wouldn't like it if he was a completely selfish prick. He had to watch himself, then again, he was used to it here in Storybrooke. After all, he couldn't just act like his old giggly-self here suddenly and people notice his difference. No. He planned to make a new persona for him here, though he'd still be giggly and evil out of the eyes of the public, just like Mr. Gold always had been.
Gold had found that Belle was a regular at this bar, Lacey in this world. He'd met her already and they had a few nights in the bar before, but he never got to go any farther and of course, she was very little like his precious Belle. But he still loved Lacey. Everything about her was wonderful. And that's probably why he was always reduced to a little bundle of nerves when around her, though he was getting better at controlling himself.
It was just so hard to do so, because he had rejected her the entire time she was at his castle, and when he finally… finally wanted her back when he was informed that she was dead, it was too late, obviously because he thought she was dead. And then here she was. Now he was on the end having to wait until they could be together, and honestly, how the hell did Belle stand it before? Either way, his excuse this time was to collect rent. The bar didn't have the most of money and barely scraped together enough money as it was, but he tended to let it keep going even if it was a little short even since he found out about Lacey.
"A-Ah, Mr. Gold. You're here for the rent, a-are you?" The nervous bartender chuckled and pulled out a stack of cash. "We're a little short…" Gold glared at him and he quickly raised his hands and shook them from side to side. "I promise, we'll be able to pay you tomorrow. The fourth landed on a bad day for us, you see. Tonight is a big night for us. Everyone's getting off work, yes? Weekend starts tomorrow. One of the busiest days of the week, yes?" Gold raised an eyebrow and scoffed.
"And if I give you an extension, what do you think would happen?"
"We would all go on and be happy and keep this place in business?"
"Word will go around town. Everyone else will think it's alright because I gave you one. Then they will get lazier and lazier and be so far behind payments, I lose money. Now we don't want that, do we?"
"N-No sir."
"I'll cut you a deal. That girl, Lacey, if she comes in, free drinks for the night. I'll give you the extension then."
"Y-Yes sir! Thank you!"
Gold smirked and walked away from the bar, pocketing the cash and picking up a pool stick to scan the bar area, before settling on a table and racking up the balls to play a round while he waited, hoping that his beauty would come over.
