I'd rather trust and regret than doubt and regret For as long as he could remember, Graham always found a strange attraction to animals. It wasn't like anything weird, but it felt a connection, as if he understood them in some weird way. It wasn't like how others described liking animals, it felt like they were a part of his family. And it was a little weird in that respect. While he had a hard time dealing with real and actual feelings, when he was at the pet shelter, he found himself as close to a warm feeling as he had ever felt before. The cute little barking of puppies and dogs needing homes, and kitty cats meowing and rubbing up against everyone they could to show affection, and even the standoffish ones that hissed and pawed at him when he got close.
Needless to say, Sheriff Graham was a regular at the pet shelter. While he hadn't ever adopted one of them, he occasionally helped out when he had a bit of time, though he was a busy busy man, and he liked playing with the animals. However, ever since a few things happened, and he felt like he was going insane, like not feeling his heart and those flashes of memories of things that never happened to him, memories of someone who wasn't Sheriff of Storybrooke, he felt a hole in his heart, no matter what Emma said about his heart still being there and proving it by listening to his heart. And… he decided to visit the shelter today with an initial feeling to adopt an animal, probably a dog as he preferred them, or an animal that really, really just needed a good loving owner.
However, as he made his way to the shelter on his time off, Graham kept flip flopping. Technically he wasn't supposed to have pets at his apartment, but he could do it if he just informed the management and paid and extra safety deposit for any pet damage. He was so busy, he wasn't sure if he could really take care of an animal of his own. That was what he was really worried about, his work getting away of giving his pet the attention and love that it needed and deserved.
Sighing as he entered the establishment and waving to the one who greeted him as he entered, he walked among the pets and sat down in front of a cage with a couple of dogs, right next to several cages with a cat each. Ah, he just wanted to fill this hole in his heart. Could something like this really help?
