AU: Gold adopts Emma, taking her out of the foster system and raising her as his daughter.
I'm not just a SaviorEmma sighed heavily as she glanced out the window of the car as it made its way towards what she assumed was her new home. She was already bored having stopped in her reading and gone about fogging up the window with her breath and then attempting to draw little pictures. It had already been two hours of being in the car and she was rather nervous about just what her new foster home was going to be like. The last one leaving permanent psychological damage on the frail girl's mind and also a few little scars along her back and one on her right shoulder. They were still in various stages of healing considering they had only removed her a couple days later. Hard to believe she had already gone through so much at the tender age of 12 as she sat there trying not to think too much on it all. Even now she could still close her eyes and remember the times her last foster parent had gone at her, beating on her for something little like wanting food. She was certainly a bit on the thinner side, but Emma hardly seemed to notice as she grew bored, hearing the car radio switch on. She looked up a moment as some music came on sensing her social worker was just trying to help even if it wasn't much. Her casted hand leaning against the window as she once more attempted to draw a little bird in the car window.that's only half of who I am.
"Emma, I'm sure everything will work out," replied her social worker as he continued their trek to the seemingly middle of nowhere.
"That's what you always say," muttered Emma looking away from the rearview mirror as she attempted to get herself somewhat comfortable despite the situation.
The social worker seemed to consider her words for the longest time before growing silent and returning his gaze to the road. Realistically, he'd never even heard of this town called Storybrooke, but it mattered little other than Emma's health and well-being. He'd been assigned to her case the moment she had entered and yet with each new time she was removed for one reason or another he was starting to feel bad. Particularly that last home, though thankfully he caught onto the abuse after about a week or two which essentially had made Emma a lot quieter. She certainly wasn't quite so energetic and talkative, but that was to be expected as he finally crossed over into the town. Emma having already passed out at some point from the lull of the car ride which was something she tended to do quite often.
Reaching the little town, he stopped to look around making a note of everything in his town as he tried to find the address he was looking for. Of course, he'd be staying around town for a little bit to help Emma get acquainted with her new foster father and making sure it was a good match. Especially when he was starting to feel as though he might be failing the young girl that was under his care. He always tried to keep her positive, but at the moment he knew the only thing that mattered to that girl was finding her forever home. He still felt really bad about it all wishing he'd known sooner, but given Emma hadn't spoken up at all to the abuse, he'd assumed everything was alright. He continued to scan the streets, he finally spotted the one he was looking for checking on Emma who was still fast asleep. He gave a small smile to the sleeping little girl as he turned down the street and eventually found himself at the home of one Mr. Gold.
Pulling to the side of the driveway, the social worker eventually stopped the car and gently turned to face Emma. She looked so peaceful there in the back with her blue cast around her wrist. He almost didn't want to wake her, but he knew that the sooner they got this over with the better. Sighing gently, he moved to wake Emma watching as she jarred from her spot and looked around in fright. He gave her apologetic smile before gesturing to her that they were here watching a heavy sigh come over the girl as she got out of the car. He followed suit being careful not to touch her knowing she was very nervous when it came to things like that before guiding her over to the rather large house. Even Emma was a little shocked by it all as they made their way up to the doorstep of the house. She, of course, stood just a little behind her social worker keeping her distance as the man knocked on the door trying to calm the frightened young girl.
